HyperFrames Claude skills

HeyGen's framework and skills for writing HTML and rendering it to deterministic MP4 video, with a CLI, a block registry and media tooling.

Our verdict Recommended with caveats

A deep and well-tested video skill set, but telemetry is on by default and the CLI skill tells the agent to post feedback after each render, so read the privacy rules before installing.

What HyperFrames does

HyperFrames renders video from HTML by seeking a paused GSAP timeline frame by frame, so every render comes out the same. The repo ships seven published skills. The hyperframes skill is the entry point: it holds the composition contract (timed clips, one registered timeline per scene, no random or network calls), the work loop (plan, check, snapshot, preview, render) and reference files for film structure, captions, overlays, motion and look, plus about 20 frame presets. hyperframes-cli documents the npx hyperframes commands; hyperframes-registry searches and installs about 450 ready-made blocks and components; media-use finds or generates music, sound effects, images, voiceover, avatars, transcripts and colour grades using HeyGen or free local tools.

Three more install on demand: figma (import assets and tokens), slideshow (a navigable deck instead of an MP4) and remotion-to-hyperframes (port existing video code and verify it frame by frame against the original). The skills are substantial: 7 to 8 KB of instructions each, dozens of reference files, and a Node and Python script set with unit tests in media-use. You need Node.js 22+ and FFmpeg. Several steps work with HeyGen's paid features, but each has a free local alternative.

Good for

  • Having an agent produce explainers, product videos, captions and motion graphics from code
  • Teams that want reproducible, version-controlled video built from HTML and GSAP
  • Porting Remotion or other code-based animations into an editable project

Not for

  • People who want a timeline-based visual editor as their main workflow
  • Machines without FFmpeg, Node.js 22+ and enough RAM for local rendering or local AI models

What's inside depth 4/5

Seven published skills averaging about 5-7 KB plus 60+ reference files, frame presets, a large media-use script set with 25 test files and CI, though the repo's own metrics show no evals.

Dependencies and costs

  • Node.js 22 or later and FFmpeg
  • heygen CLI and a HeyGen login or API key for avatars, HeyGen voices and catalog music (optional; free local tools exist)
  • FIGMA_TOKEN for the figma skill
  • Python 3.10+ and local models for some free media paths
  • Telemetry: Usage counters are on by default; they are anonymous until you sign in to HeyGen, after which they are linked to your HeyGen account (email and username). Disable with npx hyperframes telemetry disable or HYPERFRAMES_NO_TELEMETRY=1. The CLI skill also tells the agent to send feedback reports after successful renders and for missing features unless telemetry is off.

Security review

Broad access

This skill asks for more access than most, or sends data to another service. That is usually a design choice rather than bad intent, but you should know before you install it.

  • Uploads your data by defaultAfter every verified render the agent is told to run npx hyperframes feedback with a rating and comment and to file MISSING FEATURE reports describing what the person asked for, without asking each time (skipped only if telemetry is disabled or the user opted out); the file says feedback goes to a public channel and to redact paths and identifiers. The registry skill sends search-miss reports the same way.skills/hyperframes-cli/references/feedback.md:3

A large HTML-to-video toolkit with skills for authoring, rendering, media sourcing, Figma and Remotion conversion, plus a catalog of about 450 blocks. Its scripts and CLI send usage telemetry (linked to your HeyGen email and username after sign-in) unless you opt out, the CLI skill has the agent send feedback reports after renders, and media-use installs Python packages on demand. Only a fraction of the repository was available to review, and the CLI itself was not.

Worth knowing

  • Sends usage data by default (can be turned off)media-use scripts and the HyperFrames CLI post usage events to PostHog by default; after HeyGen sign-in they are linked to your email and username. Opt out with HYPERFRAMES_NO_TELEMETRY=1, DO_NOT_TRACK=1 or hyperframes telemetry disable.skills/media-use/scripts/lib/telemetry.mjs:7
  • Needs an API key for its own serviceHeyGen, Gemini, ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Groq and Figma credentials are each sent to their own service; locate.mjs sends an image and GEMINI_API_KEY to Google in its optional auto mode.skills/media-use/audio/scripts/lib/heygen.mjs:55
  • Makes network requestsDownloads media from HeyGen, Openverse and Gemini, map tiles from ArcGIS and CARTO, registry items from GitHub, and uploads projects to HeyGen cloud render / publish on request.skills/media-use/scripts/lib/media-fetch.mjs:41
  • Installs packages or toolsRuns python -m pip install on demand for google-genai, transformers, torch and others; hyperframes init and skills update install further skills into the agent's skill folders; the test corpus runs npm install.skills/media-use/audio/scripts/lib/bgm.mjs:40
  • Runs remote code at an unpinned versionStandalone installs run npx hyperframes without a version (the plugin launcher pins to the plugin release), and .agents/skills/motion-doctrine/scripts/seam-gate.mjs runs npx --yes hyperframes preview.skills/hyperframes/scripts/plugin-cli.mjs:1
  • Relies on a CLI or package we could not reviewSkills drive the HyperFrames npm CLI, the heygen CLI, ffmpeg, Chrome and optional local model tools, none of whose code is in the files we have.skills/hyperframes/SKILL.md:10
  • Changes files outside your projectWrites ~/.hyperframes/config.json (anonymous ID, notice flag), a global ~/.media ledger, and reads ~/.heygen/credentials for the account name.skills/media-use/scripts/lib/telemetry.mjs:49

What we checked

The repository (9450 files) on Oct 29, 2026. Not a full review: 8305 of 9450 files were not downloaded (large repository; we reviewed the skill folders); it contains compiled binaries or archives we cannot read; we read 20 of 171 code files; it relies on code outside the repository: npm package hyperframes (HyperFrames CLI, run through npx) and its monorepo packages, which were not downloaded; about 8,300 of 9,450 repository files were not downloaded, including plugin manifests, .claude/settings.json and .codex/hooks.json; heygen CLI and external services (HeyGen, Openverse, Gemini, ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Groq, Figma).

NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 569 pattern hits (MCP Rug Pull 417, Memory Poisoning 55, Prompt Injection 30, Supply Chain 16, Privilege Escalation 15, Data Exfiltration 12). Most hits are documentation, caption-preset HTML comments, test fixtures and the 'npx hyperframes' invocation. The telemetry, feedback instructions, on-demand pip installs and API-key handling are real behaviors described above.

A review, not a certification. Skills change after we check them — read the files before installing.

Apache-2.0 — commercial use allowed, with no per-render fees.

Can it run unattended?

Not really. The workflow deliberately stops at a Studio preview for the person's approval before the delivery render, unless you ask for no stops.

FAQ

What is HyperFrames?

HyperFrames is an open-source framework from HeyGen that turns HTML, CSS, media and seekable animations into deterministic MP4 video. The repo also ships agent skills so tools like Claude Code can plan, write, check and render videos.

How do I install the HyperFrames skills?

In Claude Code run claude plugin marketplace add heygen-com/hyperframes, then claude plugin install hyperframes@hyperframes. Elsewhere use npx skills add heygen-com/hyperframes, or npx hyperframes skills update to install the core set (hyperframes, hyperframes-cli, hyperframes-registry, media-use) from the current main branch.

Is HyperFrames free, and does it send data?

The framework is Apache-2.0 with no per-render fees, and media-use has free local options alongside HeyGen's paid catalog. The CLI collects usage counters by default (linked to your HeyGen account if you sign in); turn them off with npx hyperframes telemetry disable.

HyperFrames vs Remotion: what is the difference?

Remotion builds video from React components under its own license, while HyperFrames builds from plain HTML and GSAP and ships an Apache-2.0 license per its README. The remotion-to-hyperframes skill ports existing Remotion work and checks it frame by frame.
