seo-audit (marketingskills) skill

A site-audit skill covering crawlability, indexation, speed, on-page, content quality and international SEO, with a ranked action plan.

Our verdict Recommended

A well-structured, MIT-licensed audit checklist with sensible warnings (schema detection, untrusted pages); it is guidance, not a crawler.

What the seo-audit skill does

This skill from Corey Haines' marketingskills collection turns vague requests like 'my SEO is bad' or 'my traffic dropped' into a structured audit. It first gathers site type, goals, current traffic, recent migrations and scope, and reads an optional shared product-marketing context file. The audit follows a priority order: crawlability and indexation (robots.txt, sitemaps, canonicals, redirects, soft 404s), technical foundations (Core Web Vitals, mobile, HTTPS, URL structure), on-page elements (titles, meta descriptions, headings, images, internal links), content quality and E-E-A-T signals, then authority and links. It adds sections for international SEO, such as hreflang and locale URL structure, and checklists for SaaS, e-commerce, content, multilingual and local-business sites.

A notable detail is the schema warning: the skill says web_fetch and curl cannot reliably see JavaScript-injected structured data, so the agent should render the page in a browser or use Google's Rich Results Test before reporting 'no schema found'. Fetched pages are treated as untrusted data. The SKILL.md is about 18 KB and links seven references (title tags, rankings push for pages in positions 8 to 20, international SEO, local SEO, AI writing detection), about 47 KB in all. There are 13 eval prompts and no scripts. Related skills for AI search, schema, link building and programmatic SEO handle the next step.

Good for

  • First-pass technical and on-page audits of a site you have access to
  • Diagnosing traffic drops and pages stuck on page two
  • Checking international and local SEO setups with a prioritized fix list

Not for

  • Keyword research or large-scale competitor analysis (it has no data sources of its own)
  • Teams that need automated crawling, since the skill has no scripts and relies on the agent's fetch and browser tools

Depth 4/5

An 18 KB SKILL.md with seven reference files (about 47 KB) and 13 eval prompts, but no scripts or data integrations.

Dependencies and costs

  • Optional: Search Console or analytics access
  • Optional: a browser tool or Rich Results Test for schema checks
  • Optional: paid SEO tools mentioned in the tools list

Security review

No issues found

We scanned all 9 files in this skill folder and read every script. Nothing in it reaches beyond what the skill describes.

A Markdown-only SEO audit skill (SKILL.md, references and an evals file). It has no scripts, hooks or pre-approved tools; optional Search Console, analytics or browser access is something you provide, and it tells the agent to treat fetched pages as untrusted data.

What we checked

The skill folder (9 files) on Oct 29, 2026. We had every file and read every script.

NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 0 pattern hits. SkillSpector reported no hits; grep lines are SEO checklist wording (author credentials, analytics measurement) and notes that web_fetch/curl cannot see JS-injected schema.

Can it run unattended?

Not really. It produces a one-off audit report from a checklist; there is no crawl loop, stop condition or state to resume.

FAQ

What is the seo-audit skill?

It is a skill in Corey Haines' marketingskills collection that audits a site's SEO in priority order: crawlability and indexation, technical foundations, on-page, content quality and authority. It also covers international and local SEO and outputs a prioritized action plan.

How do I install seo-audit?

Run npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills and pick seo-audit, or copy skills/seo-audit into your agent's skills directory. It works with Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.

Can seo-audit detect schema markup?

Only if the agent renders the page. The skill warns that web_fetch and curl miss JavaScript-injected JSON-LD, and tells the agent to use a browser, Google's Rich Results Test or a Screaming Frog export before claiming schema is missing.

seo-audit vs Claude SEO: which one should I use?

seo-audit is a single skill with references, easy to add if you want a checklist-driven audit. Claude SEO is a 26-sub-skill, 19-agent plugin for Claude Code with optional paid-data extensions, better if you want parallel agents and live data.
