Obsidian Second Brain
eugeniughelbur/obsidian-second-brainPersistent, self-rewriting memory in your Obsidian vault: 48 commands, a shared cross-agent logbook (Crew), scheduled maintenance and a research toolkit.
Six skills by Obsidian's Steph Ango (kepano) for Obsidian Markdown, Bases, JSON Canvas, the Obsidian CLI, Defuddle and Knap.
Small, accurate and written by the people who maintain the formats; it fills a real gap for Obsidian users.
Obsidian Skills teaches a coding agent the file formats and command-line tools used in an Obsidian vault. obsidian-markdown covers Obsidian Flavored Markdown: wikilinks, embeds, callouts and properties, with reference files for callouts, embeds and properties. obsidian-bases explains the .base format, including views, filters, formulas and summaries, and has a functions reference. json-canvas describes the .canvas format (nodes, edges, groups) with a worked-examples file, so the agent can generate mind maps and flowcharts that open in Obsidian. obsidian-cli shows how to work with a vault through the Obsidian CLI, including plugin and theme development.
Two skills wrap small companion tools by the same author. defuddle tells the agent to prefer the Defuddle CLI over a generic fetch for standard web pages, producing clean Markdown and saving tokens. knap covers the Knap CLI, which renders Markdown from templates plus JSON or CSV data, including batch generation. The whole repo is 15 files; SKILL.md files average about 5.7 KB, there are no scripts and no tests. Install through the Claude Code marketplace, npx skills add, or by copying the skills folder into your agent's skills directory; the README gives steps for Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode.
Six short skills (5.7 KB average) with a handful of reference files, no scripts or tests.
Counted from the repository file tree. How we score depth.
Markdown-only skills that teach the agent Obsidian file formats (Markdown, Bases, JSON Canvas) and drive three companion command-line tools: defuddle for web page extraction, knap for template rendering, and the Obsidian CLI for vault operations. No SKILL.md sets allowed-tools and there are no scripts; the CLIs are installed separately and their code was not reviewed.
npm install -g defuddle / npm install -g knap.skills/defuddle/SKILL.md:8npx knap as an alternative to installing, without a version pin.skills/knap/SKILL.md:10defuddle parse <url> downloads the web page you name and converts it to Markdown.skills/defuddle/SKILL.md:14The repository (15 files) on Oct 29, 2026. Not a full review: it relies on code outside the repository: npm packages defuddle and knap, and the Obsidian CLI (used by the defuddle, knap and obsidian-cli skills).
NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 4 pattern hits (MCP Rug Pull 4). The four SkillSpector hits are unpinned npx skills and npx knap mentions in the README and the knap skill's install instructions.

Not really. These are format and tool references for interactive work, with no loop, stop condition or verification steps.

Linked skills have their own review.
Persistent, self-rewriting memory in your Obsidian vault: 48 commands, a shared cross-agent logbook (Crew), scheduled maintenance and a research toolkit.
Forty skills that let an agent build and maintain a linked Obsidian vault from your notes, code and past agent sessions, then answer questions with citations.
Skill that builds animated, single-file HTML slide decks from scratch or from a PowerPoint, after showing you three visual style previews.
A catalog of roughly 2,900 community SKILL.md playbooks, with a local CLI, MCP server and plugin bundles for searching and installing them.
They are six agent skills by kepano (Steph Ango) covering Obsidian Flavored Markdown, Bases, JSON Canvas, the Obsidian CLI, the Defuddle web extractor and the Knap template renderer. They help an agent produce valid Obsidian files.
In Claude Code run /plugin marketplace add kepano/obsidian-skills then /plugin install obsidian@obsidian-skills. Otherwise use npx skills add https://github.com/kepano/obsidian-skills or copy the skills folder into your agent's skills directory.
The format skills (markdown, bases, canvas) only teach file syntax, so the agent can write files without Obsidian running. The obsidian-cli skill needs the Obsidian CLI, and defuddle and knap need their own npm packages.
Yes as far as we could find: they are plain Markdown instructions with no scripts or network calls of their own. The scanner only flagged unpinned npx commands in the install notes.
