google-agents-cli-publish skill

Explains how to register a deployed agent with Gemini and manage agents in Agent Registry using agents-cli publish gemini.

Our verdict Recommended with caveats

Accurate and narrow, but it only applies to Google's Gemini registration, and it acts on real cloud registrations and IAM.

What the google-agents-cli-publish skill does

The publish skill covers the last step for teams that want a deployed agent to appear in the Gemini app: registering it with agents-cli publish gemini. It lists prerequisites (a deployed, reachable text-based agent, an existing Gemini app, and deployment metadata created by agents-cli deploy on Agent Runtime) and states that live or voice agents are not supported by that app.

It distinguishes two registration modes. A2A registration uses an agent card URL and is the default and only type on Cloud Run and GKE; ADK registration is the default for ADK agents on Agent Runtime, where the Gemini app calls the agent natively. The skill gives the IAM role the Discovery Engine service account needs on a Cloud Run service. It also covers managing the agent registry (list, update, delete registered agents and register an MCP server), flags, auto-detection and troubleshooting. The SKILL.md is about 12 KB with no reference folder.

Good for

  • Making an ADK or A2A agent available in the Gemini app
  • Managing registered agents in Agent Registry

Not for

  • Agents that have not been deployed
  • Voice or live agents

Dependencies and costs

  • agents-cli (uv tool install google-agents-cli), Python 3.11+, uv and Node.js
  • A Google Cloud project and credentials for deployment and cloud features (an AI Studio API key is enough for local create, run and eval)
  • Telemetry: The agents-cli tool sends one usage signal per command (command name, exit code, error class, duration, CLI and Python versions, OS), written as a log entry to your own Google Cloud project's Cloud Logging, never file contents or arguments. Opt out with AGENTS_CLI_TELEMETRY=0; agents-cli info shows the current state.

Review before installing

A single Markdown file describing how to register a deployed agent with a Gemini app or Agent Registry using agents-cli. It acts on your Google Cloud project with your credentials, and the registration makes the agent callable from the Gemini app. The agents-cli tool was not reviewed and sends usage telemetry unless you opt out.

What we checked

The skill folder (1 files) on Oct 29, 2026. Not a full review: it relies on code outside the repository: agents-cli (PyPI package google-agents-cli, installed with uv tool install).

NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 0 pattern hits. The scan reported no hits for this skill; the folder is a single SKILL.md.

Can it run unattended?

Not really. Registration is a one-time interactive step after deployment.

FAQ

What is google-agents-cli-publish?

Explains how to register a deployed agent with Gemini and manage agents in Agent Registry using agents-cli publish gemini.

How do I install google-agents-cli-publish?

It ships in the google/agents-cli repository. Run uvx google-agents-cli setup or npx skills add google/agents-cli; the skill expects the agents-cli binary (uv tool install google-agents-cli).

What does publishing to Gemini change?

It registers your deployed agent so the Gemini app can call it, either natively for ADK agents on Agent Runtime or through the A2A protocol. On Cloud Run it also requires granting an invoker role to a Google service account.
