Awesome GitHub Copilot Claude skills

GitHub's community-contributed library of 466 skills plus agents, instructions, hooks and plugins for Copilot, installable per plugin from a marketplace.

Our verdict Recommended with caveats

A valuable, active catalogue, but contributions are third-party and uneven, so pick individual skills and read them before installing.

What Awesome GitHub Copilot does

Awesome Copilot is a large repository run under the GitHub organization where contributors submit Copilot customizations: custom agents, file-pattern instructions, skills, hooks, workflows, plugins and a cookbook of recipes for Copilot APIs. The dossier counts 466 skill folders, averaging about 9 KB of instructions, so this is a library to browse rather than a single coherent skill pack. The README points to a website with full-text search, a Learning Hub and a machine-readable llms.txt listing.

Skills in the sample we read range widely: an Adobe Illustrator scripting guide of 35 KB, a codebase-knowledge acquirer with templates and a script, Arize observability skills, Azure and Aspire guidance, agent governance and OWASP compliance checklists, ad-campaign analysis, an Arch Linux triage skill and repo-level agentic-workflow routers. Some skills have references and a few have scripts; most are instructions only. Plugins bundle agents and skills for a workflow and install with copilot plugin install name@awesome-copilot, because the marketplace is registered in recent Copilot CLI and VS Code. The repo has CI and some evaluation files, but quality depends on each contributor, and the README itself says to inspect any agent and its documentation before installing.

Good for

  • GitHub Copilot users looking for ready-made agents, instructions and skills
  • Browsing examples of how others structure Copilot customizations
  • Picking a specific skill by topic through the website search

Not for

  • Installing the whole collection into an agent at once
  • Anyone who wants a single, consistently reviewed methodology

Security review

Review before installing

The GitHub-run community collection of Copilot skills, agents and plugins. We only have a small fraction of it (about 600 of nearly 4,000 files), and the executable files we have are local helpers plus an Azure CLI command list. Individual skills can install tools by piping vendor scripts to bash or create cloud resources, so each skill needs its own review.

Worth knowing

  • Installs with curl | shThe aspire skill (and its deployment references) tells the agent or CI to run curl -sSL https://aspire.dev/install.sh | bash from the Aspire vendor's host.skills/aspire/SKILL.md:102
  • Relies on a CLI or package we could not reviewThis script is a list of Azure CLI commands (extension add, workspace and App Insights creation, app settings set) that create billable Azure resources and change app configuration when run; other skills drive tools such as the Aspire CLI.skills/appinsights-instrumentation/scripts/appinsights.ps1:1

What we checked

The repository (3985 files) on Oct 29, 2026. Not a full review: 3391 of 3985 files were not downloaded (large repository; we reviewed the skill folders); we read 2 of 7 code files; it relies on code outside the repository: 3,391 of 3,985 repo files are not in our copy: this is a very large community collection, and we have only part of its skills, agents, hooks and plugin manifests; Not read in full: skills/acquire-codebase-knowledge/scripts/scan.py, inventory_skills.py, project_profile.py, render_stack_card.py, skill_index.py (searched for network, subprocess and file-removal use; only git subprocess calls and local file reads/writes were found); Tools referenced by individual skills: Azure CLI, Aspire installer, Arize and other services.

NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 73 pattern hits (Excessive Agency 25, Tool Misuse 8, MCP Rug Pull 8, Rogue Agent 7, Supply Chain 5, Privilege Escalation 4). Hits are mostly documentation: prettier-ignore comments, 'always obey' style wording, git reset --hard and subprocess.run(shell=True) as examples inside governance or autoresearch skills, regex patterns for credentials inside the skill inventory scanner, and unpinned npx mentions. The curl-to-bash lines are the Aspire install instructions.

A review, not a certification. Skills change after we check them — read the files before installing.

Can it run unattended?

Not really. It is a mixed catalogue; a few entries involve agentic workflows, but there is no common loop, state or verification layer.
