ex-USSR Kinship Research
DenisSergeevitch/ex-ussr-kinship-researchAn evidence-first genealogy skill for the former USSR and Russian Empire: church and civil records, archives, evidence registers, an audit script and an HTML report.
Genealogy skill that plans research before searching, then covers citations, conflicting evidence and logs under the GPS.
A focused, well-structured skill with references and templates, grounded in recognized genealogy standards and with an explicit privacy warning.
This single skill, named family-history-planning, changes how Claude responds when you mention an ancestor. Instead of running searches straight away, it first asks what you already know, helps you define a specific research question, and produces a structured plan with prioritized sources and search strategies. Web searches are allowed only after the plan exists and you explicitly ask for them, and then the agent is told to follow the plan and log every search.
Beyond planning, the skill covers three more workflows: writing genealogical citations in the Evidence Explained style for more than a dozen source types (census, vital, church, land, probate, military, immigration, newspapers, online databases and books), weighing conflicting evidence with source-reliability checks and a preponderance-of-evidence approach, and keeping research logs that record negative as well as positive results. The method follows the Genealogical Proof Standard and Board for Certification of Genealogists practice.
The SKILL.md is large, around 16 KB, and pulls in six reference files on demand plus five markdown templates for plans, citations, evidence analysis and logs. There are no scripts. The README opens with privacy guidance: do not share details about living people or recently deceased relatives, and verify AI output against primary sources.
One 16 KB SKILL.md with 6 reference files and 5 templates but no scripts or tests.
Counted from the repository file tree. How we score depth.
We scanned all 20 files in this repository and read every script. Nothing in it reaches beyond what the skill describes.
A Markdown-only skill (SKILL.md, reference documents and templates) for planning genealogy research using standard evidence methods. It contains no scripts, hooks, network calls or credential handling, and no allowed-tools pre-approvals. It will handle personal family data you give it in the conversation.
The repository (20 files) on Oct 29, 2026. We had every file and read every script.
NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 6 pattern hits (Excessive Agency 2, Memory Poisoning 1, Rogue Agent 1, Agent Snooping 1, Data Exfiltration 1). Six low-signal matches, all in documentation: a 'Clear State' heading in a guidelines file, the phrase 'without verification' in research-plan guidance, and README install steps that move the folder into ~/.claude/skills and list that directory. The only workflow file is the repository's own release automation using the GitHub-provided token.
A review, not a certification. Skills change after we check them — read the files before installing.

Not really. It is built around conversation with the user, gathering known facts and agreeing a plan before any research is executed.

It is a Claude skill for genealogy research planning. It makes the agent build a research plan first, then helps with Evidence Explained citations, evidence analysis under the Genealogical Proof Standard and research logs.
On Claude.ai, enable Skills in Settings and upload the release ZIP. For Claude Code, extract the ZIP and move the family-history-planning folder into ~/.claude/skills/.
The skill itself contains only markdown and no scripts. The README warns against sharing identifying details of living or recently deceased people with any AI tool, and says AI systems may retain what you provide, so redact before sharing.
The emaynard skill teaches general planning, citation and proof-standard method with English-language examples. DenisSergeevitch/ex-ussr-kinship-research targets archival research on ex-USSR sources such as church books and civil records. Pick by the region of your ancestors.
