agent-rules-books Claude skills

Fourteen skills that apply rules distilled from classic software books such as Clean Code, Refactoring, DDD and DDIA, each in nano, mini and full versions.

Our verdict Recommended

Small, cheap rule sets with a thoughtful size ladder; they guide style rather than add capability.

What agent-rules-books does

agent-rules-books turns well-known software engineering books into compact rule sets an agent can follow. Each book has its own folder with a tiny SKILL.md of under 1 KB that tells the agent when to use it and to read the mini rules file first, falling back to the full file only when more depth is needed. Three versions exist for every book: nano for very tight context budgets, mini as the recommended default, and full as the complete reference, with line, rule and byte counts published in a release matrix.

Topics include software design philosophy, clean architecture, refactoring, domain-driven design, legacy code, reliability and data-intensive systems. The rules are also usable without the skills mechanism, as always-on AGENTS.md content or scoped rules for Codex, Cursor and Claude Code, with a separate setup guide covering each editor. Install everything with npx skills add ciembor/agent-rules-books --all, or one book with --skill. The rules are the author's own summaries inspired by the books, not the book text. There are no scripts, tests or evals, and the author says deeper measurements were not done.

Good for

  • Adding design-principle guardrails to code review and refactoring tasks
  • Projects with tight context budgets that want the nano or mini versions
  • Teams that prefer AGENTS.md rules over many procedural skills

Not for

  • Step-by-step workflow automation
  • Teams expecting measured proof of improved output

No issues found

We scanned all 215 files in this repository and read every script. Nothing in it reaches beyond what the skill describes.

A collection of Markdown rule files distilled from software-engineering books, plus short skill entry points. There are no scripts, hooks, network calls, allowed-tools settings or telemetry in the repository; the docs only mention installing with npx skills add and where various agents read rule files.

What we checked

The repository (215 files) on Oct 29, 2026. We had every file and read every script.

NVIDIA SkillSpector static scan: 18 pattern hits (MCP Rug Pull 7, Excessive Agency 6, Memory Poisoning 4, Anti-Refusal 1). All 18 SkillSpector hits are documentation: 'npx skills' in install docs/changelog, and ordinary rule wording such as 'clear context', 'without checking', 'no verification' or 'broaden scope' inside software-engineering advice.

A review, not a certification. Skills change after we check them — read the files before installing.

Can it run unattended?

Not really. They are static rules, with no loop, state or verification step.
